The underlying intention for this extensive renovation was to blend scandinavian principles with kiwi practices for this vibrant, culinary couple to share with family, friends and the wider rural community.

My bereaved client came into the showroom looking for a kitchen company that could work with her on a house renovation. She wished to use the renovation to help her through her grieving process. The project was the family home, a 1930’s villa which they had resided in for many years in Claudelands. It was important for my client to repurpose the Rimu kitchen as it held many memories.

The client is a passionate cottage gardener and enjoys bringing in the fruits of her labour and using them in her kitchen, whether preserving or cooking fresh from the garden. The existing kitchen was a galley with an added dresser in Rimu too. The space was very small and it was also a thoroughfare to the bathroom & laundry. The dining room was adjacent to the kitchen and was small with a fireplace that dominated the room. Opposite was the back door and a small deck with stairs down to the garden.

The home was undergoing a massive renovation and extension where the new kitchen was to be placed which meant it was a blank canvas. The prerequisite from the clients is that they needed storage, but they also wanted a bold symmetrical design.
