The design brief for this family bathroom was for a functional and welcoming space to suit the needs of a busy family of five – while cohesively aligning with the industrial-chic design ethos of the entire new build project.

The bathroom is situated on the second floor of a large home, on a constrained inner city plot.

Regular users of the space are the owners’ daughters aged 7 and 5 years old, together with family and guests utilising the upstairs living space.

With three fully tiled bathrooms in the home, each is unique, yet they flow with a relationship like cousins, rather than twins each has its own bespoke features and personality.

This bathroom blends bold colour and pattern, with the soft refinement of grey Stellar floor to ceiling tiles providing an elegant base.

The wall-to-wall embankment of glazing, with complementary gunmetal hardware and tapware, is not only a visual showstopper – it also creates a practical ‘wet room’ on one side of the bathroom, housing a freestanding white matte bath and two separate showers (and recessed extractor fan), thus allowing dual bathing, for streamlined efficiency and luxury rolled in to one.

A dramatic use of contrast in the vanity station is evident the moment you walk into the room – green-blue tiles, wrapping the 2.87m ledge built between the wet and dry areas is a focal point and practical shelf, grounding the wall hung 1500mm vanity.

The vanity has  dual basins and matching arched mirrors, giving each daughter a place to all home.

Colour and tone are pulled from the feature tiling and repeated in the oak veneer vanity vessel bowls, and also the cut glass pendant lighting.

The latter is suspended asymmetrically to provide task lighting and at the same time bring a subtle elegance to the strength of the linear elements of the space.
