Brief

The planning for this project started three years ago, when my professional homeowners came to me with the architectural plans for their new build, on a cliff top, in Campbells Bay.

With construction well underway, they needed help realising their dream main bathroom as well as other bespoke cabinetry in the Hamptons inspired home.

I was given a designated space to plan, design and build an elegant, classical, and luxurious main bathroom.

  • They asked for traditional panelled doors and post details, in cohesion with the panelled walls and oversized architraves.
  • Bespoke glass covered two-person shower.
  • A mirror cabinet as well as drawers to store his and her personal wares and cleaning products.
  • A hidden rubbish bin within the space.
  • Polished metal finish to all hardware.

Design statement

Working closely with the architect and builder was paramount as the building evolved and grew into an intricate work of art.

The wall panelling and dado heights had to be taken into consideration as well as the ceiling details and oversized architraves.

We managed to recess the mirror cabinet, giving more storage, and put a Concelo rubbish bin in the centre drawer in the vanity.

So, an elegant, traditional feel was created using detailed mouldings, double beaded doors, and a split glass transom for the shower door, which is mimicked throughout the home.

Due to the owner’s love of colourful nick-knacks that she wanted displayed throughout the home, we kept everything in one colour, using the very formal design, with strong lines and detailing to bring it to life.

Resene Black White is everywhere, including on the cabinetry, benchtop, and bathtub.

Most important, was having a seamless flow of design elements throughout the rest of the home, which we achieved by our attention to every detail in all the spaces we created.

This Hamptons style bathroom is bright, fresh, and airy with a glamorous vibe that makes you feel special from the moment you walk in.

It is spacious with generous proportions that envelop you while the nautically inspired homewares give interest and the personal touch.

This space has become my homeowner’s favourite place to relax and unwind at the end of the day – with panoramic views of Rangitoto Island from her bathtub, I can totally see why.
