What began as a simple vanity and wallpaper refresh quickly evolved into a full bathroom renovation after a leaking shower was uncovered mid-renovation.
This unexpected turn created an opportunity to completely reimagine the upstairs ensuite in this Whangamatā beachfront home.
Situated just off a light-filled master bedroom, the bathroom needed to reflect both the owner’s refined taste and the character of the wider home.
The brief was clear: avoid the typical Hamptons aesthetic often found in beach homes, and instead craft something timeless, serene, and quietly luxurious.
To elevate the space while honouring its original structure, we layered warm travertine-style tiles with a bold feature wallpaper, selected for its soft curves and subtle movement.
This mix added personality without overwhelming the room.
The tile wraps the shower and toilet area, while all fittings were upgraded to elegant brass for a touch of understated glamour.
The design was guided by natural materials and calming tones to counterbalance the room’s darker orientation.
The creamy palette and layered textures now create a sanctuary-like feel that connects seamlessly with the master bedroom.
This bathroom is part of a broader renovation that transformed a dated ’90s property into a welcoming, soulful beachfront retreat.
Every detail was considered – from layout reconfiguration to colour selections, custom furniture, and styling.
The result is a home that not only embraces its surroundings but is also tailored to support the rhythm of family life.
