• This bathroom was designed for two teenage boys to use.
• My homeowner liked the feel of industrial-looking spaces and the idea of this to come through in the bathroom – but still wanted a feeling of warmth to the space.
• Their main requirement was for the room to be easy to clean and maintain.
• This is a new home build – the architect had designed a large linen storage room in the plans which I felt could be made smaller and still provide adequate linen storage – the owners and architect were happy with this suggestion so I made the bathroom area much bigger, which now allowed for a large shower for the boys to use. No glass door is needed either, as the shower is 1700mm wide, which helps make the shower more practical and easier to clean.

• A back-to-wall bath was specified, meaning no water pile up from splashes – making this area of the bathroom also easy to clean around while achieving the sculptural effect of a freestanding bath.
• Double basins for both boys have been designed into the space to allow each teen to have their own dedicated basin area and storage. The surface and basins are seamless, which allows for good-sized sinks and offers another nod to easy maintenance – making this bathroom an extremely practical space.

I suggested a niche wall to be built to hide the toilet and to give this area a separation from the rest of the bathroom.

• The bath is positioned in front of the doorway to create visual impact as you enter the bathroom, and the tub is further highlighted by the black vertically laid Rewind Peltro strip tiles. The remaining tiles have a rustic concrete look, which gives this room the industrial look the owners desired.
• Black shutters were specified to match the black strip tiles behind, as I wanted to keep the material palette simple so that the white bath had more visual impact.
• Storage is found behind the mirrors and large drawers which float above the floor. A shelf has been designed to provide a space to add personal items and soften this very masculine-looking space.
