From the designer:

Inspired by the dramatic beauty of our coastline, our kitchen showcases innovation in design and functionality to deliver a stunning space for this family to gather.

It replaces an impractical, 90s-style kitchen which had a large bulkhead and rangehood over the kitchen island, obstructing the view.

Restricted in terms of the relocation of services due to the concrete subfloor, we retained the existing footprint of this large brick, rendered 2-storey home.

As well as a low-maintenance family kitchen that is high on functionality and storage, the family also wanted to introduce colour into the space, plus the owners are quite detail-oriented with a keen interest in technology.

– Centre of attention –

The centrepiece of this renovation is the kitchen island, providing form, texture and grandeur in its visual impact.

Exploring the boundaries in innovation in design and manufacturing, we specified Staron solid surfaces.

Appearing as one complete solid piece, thermoformed into the flowing curves and sculpted into our design, this incredible piece of furniture is stain resistant, durable and hygienic.

Details and advantages include the soft curves and opposing angles of the island, a seamless look with clad drawer fronts and an incredible centre storage element on hydraulic lift.

Staron has been used on the perimeter benchtop surfaces also, where it is again wrapped and formed around curves and extends down into the sink to provide a truly seamless integration and design experience.

The pop-up extractor keeps the ocean views uninterrupted.
Sleek, impactful and bursting with functionality, the island also keeps sightlines clear to the ocean outlooks when the pop-up is retracted into the benchtop.

Flush fitting the induction cooktop into the Staron, consistent with the design and flow of the sink, provided a visually seamless plane across the kitchen.

Our choice of the mosaic/kitkat tiles provides a cohesiveness in colour and a subtle repetition of lines and curves, echoing the ripples and movement of the ocean.

To capitalise on the views from the kitchen, we removed the existing servery window, replacing it with a motorised retractable blind, and extended the Staron benchtops from the kitchen sink area through to the servery – connecting it to outdoor lifestyle entertaining.

This kitchen provides the family with true AM to PM versatility – the island centre lift-up is designated to the breakfast zone for the kids, the working kitchen, and a customised bar/entertaining section too, concealed behind pocket doors that can be closed off when the bar is not in use.

We also incorporated the Hettich Avantech You drawer and storage systems to maximise storage capacity while meeting organisational requirements and optimising functionality.

Provenance and connection to our homes is very important to us – from taking inspiration from the local, iconic lighthouse and headland to shape the curved fluting in the underbench, our customised colour scheme of ocean tones that connect with the dramatic ocean seascapes.

Walk through this well-connected kitchen.
