The long +Segmento island, with its storage on the outside and its waterfalled marble benchtop at either end, makes the sleek kitchen appear bigger than the available space would actually allow.

To capitalise on the views from the kitchen, the designer removed the servery window, replacing it with a motorised retractable blind, and extending the Staron benchtops from the kitchen sink area through to the servery – thus connecting it to outdoor lifestyle entertaining.

The designer decided to use the full height of the space for the cabinetry and built out a new bulkhead along the entire back wall of the room to accommodate this.

Flush fitting the induction cooktop into the Staron creates a seamless plane across the rear benchtop. The metal rangehood cover is another design feature.

The wood-finished kitchen connects with the timber flooring and extends the natural vibe.

Designer Mic De Giulio developed a special translucent paint to apply over a plain sawn white oak for cabinetry throughout this kitchen, allowing the grain to come through and creating a texture to the finish. He also used random width planks for the doors rather than plain, solid veneer. So that adds texture as well.

Designer: By incorporating materials that compliment nature; travertine tiles, beautiful Neolith porcelain reminiscent of jade, natural timbers and steel, I have created a cohesive, warm, homely and functional kitchen.

One minute all functionality is a pace away, the next minute it has all vanished from sight.

There is cabinetry on both sides of the entrance – a combination of benchtop height and floor-to-ceiling panelling.

The owners also requested a drinks station, which the designer placed behind pocket doors in the second bank of cabinetry along the side wall.

The island features waterfall edges at each end – enhancing its seamless, monolithic aesthetic.

Sleek, impactful and bursting with functionality, the island also keeps sightlines clear to the ocean outlooks when the pop-up is retracted into the benchtop.

White leathered granite gives the island both a tactile and aesthetic presence.
