Designer Mic De Giulio developed a special translucent paint to apply over a plain sawn white oak for cabinetry throughout this kitchen, allowing the grain to come through and creating a texture to the finish. He also used random width planks for the doors rather than plain, solid veneer. So that adds texture as well.

Located on the street side of the home, the contemporary kitchen is spacious and light filled.

To capitalise on the views from the kitchen, the designer removed the servery window, replacing it with a motorised retractable blind, and extending the Staron benchtops from the kitchen sink area through to the servery – thus connecting it to outdoor lifestyle entertaining.

The designer decided to use the full height of the space for the cabinetry and built out a new bulkhead along the entire back wall of the room to accommodate this.

Now you don't see it – now you do. The central bar area reminds behind closed cabinet doors until the party gets started.

Designer: I used the pipe style extractors to minimise the obstruction of the mountain views and to echo the style of the round rustic feature table.

This kitchen was part of a large renovation that included removing walls and replacing the dated marble floor tiles with new large format slabs of 20mm thick Carrara marble.

All working surfaces are tough and hardwearing. The designer used Neolith from CDK Stone as a feature for the island while for the cooktop benchtop, splashback and scullery, black Dekton was selected, to keep in with the dark theme.

The induction hob is as sleek as the integrated extractor above – it's the marble surfaces set against the crisp white cabinetry that draws the visitor's eye.

Anchoring the space is the expansive stone island, a true social hub designed for entertaining and everyday living.

The designer replaced a large, floor-mounted window in the new kitchen with a smaller window to add privacy and allow for a long kitchen benchtop and wall units along the wall.

Wall of closed wood-veneer cabinets behind the kitchen island contain a wealth of hidden functionality.

Designer: By incorporating materials that compliment nature; travertine tiles, beautiful Neolith porcelain reminiscent of jade, natural timbers and steel, I have created a cohesive, warm, homely and functional kitchen.

A powerful extractor is concealed within the wall unit while the stainless steel rear benchtop connects with the stainless steel elements on the kitchen island.

The original, intricately veined Silver River marble chosen for the pre-flood renovation was swapped out here for a more robust engineered stone.

One minute all functionality is a pace away, the next minute it has all vanished from sight.

Recessed LED strips accentuate the handless perimeter cabinetry.

A crisp, monochromatic palette defines this new beach house, both inside and out. Architect Evelyn McNamara specified dark-stained American oak and white lacquered cabinets in the kitchen, to continue the look of the exterior – the house has black walls, a black roof and white eaves.

The long +Segmento island, with its storage on the outside and its waterfalled marble benchtop at either end, makes the sleek kitchen appear bigger than the available space would actually allow.

Handle-less appliances and cabinetry avoid any confusion allowing the alcove to pop!
