From the designer:
Situated in the countryside, this kitchen is part of a substantial addition to an existing modern barn-style home.
Designed for a busy family of five, with three energetic boys, it seamlessly blends functionality with rustic charm, creating a warm and practical space for daily life and entertaining.
The design focusses on capturing breathtaking country views, enhancing indoor-outdoor flow, and creating a centrepiece for family gatherings and entertaining.
Taking inspiration from the MasterChef kitchen, the homeowner loved the idea of a scullery but didn’t want it to be confined to a small, enclosed space.
This led to the inclusion of a sliding barn-style pantry door – a functional yet stylish feature that keeps the prep and storage area open and connected for everyday use while offering the flexibility to be closed off when entertaining.
The sliding pantry door seamlessly transitions the space between a family-friendly kitchen and an entertainer’s haven.
Balancing modern country aesthetics with durability was essential to creating a space that could withstand the demands of a busy family of boys.
Prime Art Veneer was selected for the cabinetry in a brushed and sawn finish, providing a hard-wearing, textural surface that combines style and resilience.
There is also a strong emphasis on the visually striking marble island, which serves as a central hub for social interaction.
The marble, also seen on the bar benchtops, adds a luxurious touch while complementing the natural tones of the timber flooring and dark elements within the space.
To enhance depth and texture, brass woven mesh was incorporated into the drawers on the front of the island, echoing the rich veining of the marble and giving it a bespoke furniture-like feel.
These drawers provide dedicated storage for each family member, offering a convenient space for personal belongings, bags, and devices.
A more practical surface was needed for the working scullery, leading to the selection of Caesarstone Raw Concrete, chosen for its durability and earthy tone.
To create a visual connection between the scullery and the island, a matte grey mosaic tile was chosen, incorporating the tones found in the marble.
This modern country kitchen has a warm, welcoming atmosphere suitable for both everyday use and entertaining.
Incorporating natural materials, warm tones, and industrial-style elements the space exudes a timeless appeal while integrating state-of-the-art appliances and modern technology.
