While fans and ducted systems are great, openable windows remain one of the most reliable ways to ventilate a laundry. They allow moist air to escape and encourage cross-ventilation when placed opposite other openings.

If you are designing or renovating your laundry, consider the placement and size of the windows. Louvred windows or awning windows that can be left open during light rain are especially effective in laundry areas.

Where possible, leave windows open during or after doing laundry, particularly when using dryers. Adding a fly screen allows you to keep them open longer without worrying about pests.
