This functional lap pool-meets-serene vision reflects seamless aesthetics underpinned by adroit technical and mechanical design moves.

A ‘flooded’ water-level system and infinity-weir edge create a calm, mirror-like surface that sits flush with the surrounding stone.

This sophisticated retreat balances engineering excellence with architectural elegance.

The brief

The brief for this project was ambitious: the homeowners wanted a contemporary infinity lap pool that would feel like a seamless extension of their architectural home.

The clean, modern above-ground pool connects the water’s horizon visually to the main living areas.
The clean, modern design connects the water’s horizon visually to the main living areas.

Their vision was to create a clean, modern design in which the water’s horizon visually connected to the main living areas.

Functionality was paramount; the pool needed to serve as a serious lap pool for exercise while maintaining a minimalist appeal that complemented the home’s aesthetic.

A defining requirement was its elevated location.

Positioned on the first floor to align with the indoor and outdoor entertaining spaces, the pool demanded a complex engineering solution.

The design and installation required constructing a reinforced concrete shell above ground, capable of safely protruding toward the garden without compromising structural integrity.

To preserve the sleek lines the owners wanted, we concealed all plant and mechanical equipment.

We also positioned the weir balance tank and complete filtration system directly below the pool structure.

This configuration required detailed planning to ensure optimal weight distribution, waterproofing integrity, and long-term service access within a confined footprint.

Given the overall four-year house build, precise coordination with the main contractor was essential.

Every phase of the pool installation, from concrete fabrication and waterproofing to alignment with the home’s finished floor levels, was executed to exact tolerances so the infinity edge functioned perfectly as part of the architectural form.

The finished result is a sophisticated, high-performance lap pool that meets the owners’ functional needs while enhancing the home’s design identity.

It delivers the intended visual continuity between water, structure, and landscape, a seamless, elevated integration of architecture and engineering.

Mechanics behind the magic

A key feature of the arresting outcome is the water management system.

Instead of standard skimmers, we used a raised water-level system to create a ‘flooded’ effect.

A striking weir edge on one side and a hidden internal channel on the other give the impression that the water sits perfectly level with the paving.

The balance tank keeps the surface smooth and reflective, helping the pool appear as an intentional part of the home’s form.

For ease of use, an in-floor cleaning system and automated covers reduce maintenance demands.

Beautiful interior tone and spa to hand

The interior finish creates a subtle, deep oceanic tone, without harsh blue hues.

Completing the facilities, a custom concrete spa sits just behind the main pool, providing privacy yet a close connection for post-swim relaxation.

The pool construction process

Building this pool was a significant logistical and engineering challenge that tested every part of our on-site coordination.

With the property built boundary to boundary, the site was extremely tight.

We had to carefully lift every material and piece of equipment to the first floor while working around the main house construction.

In essence

The result is an elegant, high-performing space that delivers exactly what the clients envisioned: a precise, functional lap pool that doubles as a serene sanctuary and social hub.
