This kitchen was part of a large renovation that included removing walls and replacing the dated marble floor tiles with new large format slabs of 20mm thick Carrara marble.

The owners had a modern country style in mind with timber elements and a matt black theme.

Designer: “The island needs to be large and clad in stone” was our brief for the main kitchen island.

The island has a staggering capacity of seating for ten (not all breakfast stools shown here).

The only way to maximise the storage was to have back-to-back units on the island, plinth drawers in the toekick spaces and also to go up – hence the use of the full height cabinetry along the back wall.

The long +Segmento island, with its storage on the outside and its waterfalled marble benchtop at either end, makes the sleek kitchen appear bigger than the available space would actually allow.

To help emphasise the island, the designer mirrored the island shape to the ceiling with a suspended ‘cloud’, clad in timber panelling. Recessed LED strip lighting has been used on the inside of the cloud.
