Entertaining outdoors has become a feature of the New Zealand lifestyle in recent decades. While this is partly due to our temperate climate, it’s also the result of an increasing emphasis placed on good landscape design.

Not surprisingly, pools feature strongly in many new landscape projects. And they are invariably customised with the same care and attention that goes into the design of a new home or renovation.

The pools shown here are recent projects by Frontier Pools, a company that specialises in customised pool design and construction.

Large blue outdoor pool with natural coloured paving, and glass fencing.

Manager Neil Runciman says these projects typify the trend towards architectural looks.

“Pools today form part of the overall architecture,” he says. “There is always a strong visual link to the house, and plenty of space for entertaining family and friends.”

Runciman says lap pools and spa pools are increasingly in demand. In addition, pool landscapes frequently include water features, such as spouts and sheer descent waterfalls. Swim jets, wet edges, stepping stones, natural rock pools and fibre optic lighting are also popular options.

Long blue pool with white surrounds, glass fencing, white pergola and furniture.

Frontier Pools can build a pool to your architect’s specification, or help with the design process. The company can also put you in touch with a reputable landscape designer if desired.

Frontier Pools can supply all the filtering equipment and automation you require, and provide a full service contract if needed. The company installs Waterco Micron sand filters and energy-efficient Hydrostorm Plus pumps. There’s also a range of heating systems to take the chill off the water, including Waterco gas and Zane Solar Systems.
