Owner brief
This was a complete ensuite renovation. Our homeowners desired a beautiful, bright space with ease of use and wheelchair access if needed in the future.
Special features
Hand-painted glass wall panels, illuminated complementing basins, bespoke sconce wall light – several elements were designed for this project by Lisa de Boer.
Challenges
Glass wall panels – lining up the coral sea fans artwork to adjoining panels – panels are painted back to front.
Designer statement
The owners’ brief was to ‘create a bathroom space that will take us into our twilight years’.
As part of this, it was to include a shower that could accommodate a wheelchair – while creating a beautiful, bright space.
The resulting bathroom came together as a coral fantasy, using silver, black and white tones.
Various lighting components were fun additions – with under-vanity LED lighting on a sensor for night time safety, a bespoke wall sconce, and custom lit basins adding another design dimension.
Wrapping the glass panels – with hand painted coral imagery by Lisa de Boer – around the shower ceiling and the shower bench was a challenge with the hand-painting of artwork backwards on the glass – arranged so as to achieve double reflection in vanity mirror.
This style of organic glass moulding gives the illusion of coral submerged under the sea.
It was very important to line up the sea fans around the pieces, so the artwork was cohesive.
The final result is a truly peaceful space that was a delight to design.
