From the designer:
As featured in the television programme Moving Houses, this beautifully restored villa is positioned on the Awhitu Peninsula.
Inspired by the time period of the villa, along with its coastal & country location, the owner’s brief was to create Awhitu – a longing to return.
Brief and response
Preserve the villa vibe
The original window joinery and door have been restored.
Refined timber panelling in the upper portion of the room is a nod to the home’s English roots and villa character.
Strip lighting showcases the finer details.
Acknowledge its setting
Marble has been lavishly applied and is a clever connection to the ocean – its veining pattern creates a sense of movement, energy and waves.
The picture window frames the rural setting and is enjoyed from the shower or when soaking in the bath.
Add luxury
Decadent brushed gold lighting is aesthetically pleasing and ties in with the fixtures.
Marble is a statement of luxury and timeless style, with immediate visual impact.
The wall-mounted tapware is discreet but part of the design story, while also keeping the vanity clear of fussy adornments.
Create a space
Utilising one material, i.e. marble from the floor towards the ceiling, has resulted in a feeling of breathing space and serenity.
Floating cabinetry makes the footprint feel larger.
Express innovation
The integrated vanity top and sink is aesthetically pleasing with its clean lines, while the concealed shelving in the marble is innovative and sleek.
The strip lighting surrounding the mirror and timber panelling is also cutting edge.
Inject functionality
An integrated sink and vanity keep it simple to clean.
The walk-in shower is spacious and practical.
Modern fixtures and lighting are convenient to use, while creating a vibe too.
Encourage revisits
Strip lighting makes the space feel inviting, as does a large ergonomic bath.
