Every architectural corner of this home is incredible, so there was a real responsibility to get our interior design delivery perfect to honour the architect’s work.
There is a true authenticity to the materiality of the architectural envelope that demanded the authenticity of true designer pieces.
The owners whose previous home was of strong French provincial influence, requested a new interior that would push them out of their comfort zone and introduce them to a fresh design language that they could not envision themselves.
Our homeowners understood that they needed a considered delivery to their new interiors to ensure that the exquisite timber and concrete architecture would not feel overwhelming.
A modern expression of ‘home’
They desired an extremely modern expression of home that would feel inspirational, joyful and playful.
Considering the beautiful colours of the trees and the river as seen from the house was the starting point.
We selected expressive, bright colours and forms for the interiors that enhanced those hues.
Light is an incredible element to the success of this home, the colours we chose also speak to the intensity and subtly of the shapes and forms it creates.
These forms are mirrored in many of the Ligne Roset pieces we selected, the angles and detailing being a nod to the lineal aspect of the architect and the shadow play it creates.
Organic edges
“Unexpected organic edges to other pieces such as the Ploum sofa, coffee tables and well placed objects introduce a visual and subliminal softness and an elegant juxtaposition to all the beautiful angles,” says Kelly Gammie, Rarebird Interiors.
Rugs were an essential thread of connection between spaces and flooring surfaces.
Bold woollen statement rugs from both Ligne Roset and Designer Rugs placed on top of large format Italian tiles in the open plan spaces and Bremworth carpet in the family room, unite the horizontal space. Art is an extension of the love of beauty within this home, some pieces evoking whimsical dreamy moments while others (like some of the chosen furniture) require thought and consideration.
It was a hugely inspiring architectural canvas to work and needed to be balanced by pieces of equally bold gestures, almost like creating a painting where every stroke is important to the success of the work as a whole.
The entire design delivery was chosen as a continuation of the story the architecture started, not decoration and certainly not pieces to merely sit on or walk past.
